The Global Green USA Legacy Program in Washington DC is offering an internship for the Fall 2007/Winter 2008 for undergraduate or graduate students interested in gaining practical experience in international security, arms control, environmental research, public policy, and the legislative process. Interns participate in a variety of activities that support both organizational and individual development. Duties:
- Develop, research, write, and publish a project on a topic developed according to the needs of the organization, intern’s own interests, as well as potential school requirements for academic credit.
- Assist with media analyses and regular updates of the Green Cross / Global Green News Forum website.
- Attend legislative strategy meetings.
- Assist with organizational needs and attend Legacy Program’s events in Washington D.C., including the annual Legacy Forum and regular CTR Working Group events.
- Attend events organized by other NGOs and think tanks in Washington DC representing Global Green USA.
- Assist Legacy Program Associate and Program Director in planning and implementation of projects to promote the safe and environmentally sound destruction of weapons stockpiles globally.
- Assist with foundation research and grant writing.
- Help with other tasks and projects as needs arise.
Possible Topics
- Global disease surveillance network(s) (with a focus on Central-Eastern Europe and former Soviet Union states)
- Nonproliferation universality campaign
- Overview of arms control and disarmament treaties related to conventional weapons
- Conventional weapons destruction analysis
Eligibility:
- Must have a proven interest in international security policy, arms control, nonproliferation, and/or related environmental issues
- Must be at least a college junior in good standing or a graduate student
- Must have at least a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale), or the equivalent if from a non-US institution
Time Commitment:
- Minimum 6 months
- Part time: 15-20 hours/week; Full time: 35 hours/week

The Global Green USA Legacy Program in Washington DC is offering a Communications and Development internship for the fall of 2007/winter of 2008 for undergraduate or graduate students interested in gaining practical experience in communications, media, international security, arms control, environmental research, public policy, and the legislative process. Interns participate in a variety of activities that support both organizational and individual development.

Duties:
- Assist with media analyses and outreach for and execution of Congressional briefings and events.
- Develop press relations and research appropriate media outlets.
- Update media database.
- Attend legislative strategy meetings.
- Assist in the drafting of Global Green Legacy press releases and Op-Eds.
- Explore creative ways to engage and expand Global Green’s network.
- Write/edit articles for newsletters and draft letters to potential funders.
- Research funding sources- foundations and potential corporate associates.
- Keep Global Green’s website up-to-date with the latest news and briefing information.
- Develop targeted fundraising appeals and assemble information for potential donors.
- Assist with organizational needs and attend Legacy Program’s events in Washington D.C., including the annual Legacy Forum and regular CTR Working Group events
- Attend events organized by other NGOs and think tanks in Washington DC representing Global Green USA.
- Work closely with Communications departments in our headquarters office in Santa Monica, CA and other affiliates in Geneva, Moscow, Rome and Paris.
- Assist Legacy Program Associate and Program Director in planning and implementation of projects to promote the safe and environmentally sound destruction of weapons stockpiles globally.
- Help with other tasks and projects as needs arise.
Eligibility:
- Must be at least a college junior in good standing or a graduate student pursuing a degree in communications, journalism, politics, environmental studies, or a related field.
- Must have at least a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale), or the equivalent if from a non-US
institution.
- Must have an interest in international security policy, arms control, nonproliferation, and/or related environmental issues.
- Strong writing and research skills.
- Self-starter, flexible and able to manage multiple tasks.
- Excellent computer skills or ability to quickly learn various computer programs including: Microsoft programs (Excel, Outlook and Word), Dreamweaver and database programs.
- Effective interpersonal communication skills.
Time Commitment:
- Minimum 2 months
- Part time: 20+ hours/week; Full time: 35+ hours/week

Global Green 2007-2008 Internship in New Orleans
The Global Green USA in New Orleans is offering 2007 – 2008 internship opportunities for undergraduate or graduate students interested in gaining practical experience in green building, environmental research, public policy, and the legislative process. Interns participate in a variety of activities that support both organizational and individual development.
Duties:
- Develop, research, write, and possibly publish a project on a topic developed according to the needs of the organization, intern’s own interests, as well as potential school requirements for academic credit.

- Documentation for the Holy Cross Project and LEED.

- Preference given to graduate students, but junior and senior undergraduate students are encouraged to apply
- Must have at least a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale), or the equivalent if from a non-US institution

Global Green USA Fall 2007/Winter 2008 Policy & Legislative Affairs Internship , Los Angeles
Global Green USA’s Policy and Legislative Affairs Department seeks an intern for a minimum of 6 months to assist with Global Green’s various policy and advocacy initiatives on green buildings, renewable energy and climate change. This is an ongoing internship position.
Duties:
Research on policy issues, assisting in outreach and public awareness efforts, attending meetings on relevant topics and general office administrative tasks.
Eligibility:
Graduate program level and/or undergraduate Political Science, Public Policy/Government, Environmental Policy majors encouraged to apply. Applicant should have knowledge of or interest in climate change, green building, renewable energy policy issues. Positive attitude, ability to communicate effectively and public speaking skills are important. Strong writing skills also important. Ability to work independently a must. Automobile required. Must be locally based in Los Angeles.
Time Commitment:
Must commit to at least 20 hours a week for a period of 3-6 months. Internship will begin no later than the second week of January. Exact hours to be determined with intern and academic institution.

The Global Green USA Communications department is offering an internship for undergraduate or graduate students interested in gaining practical communications experience in climate change, green building, green affordable housing, green schools, and energy policy. Interns participate in a variety of activities that support both organizational and individual development.
Duties:
Researching and updating:
- Environmental initiatives of green building companies
- Background on environmental reporters
- Website imagery
- E-activist and e-newsletter outreach
Assisting with:
- Writing articles
- Event production, research and outreach
- Maintaining various event related databases
- College campus outreach
- Background calls to press
- Writing and potential programming of web and myspace pages
- Creating promotional materials showing green building construction

Green building and green schools publicity
Promoting college campus outreach
Eligibility:
Must be at least a junior undergraduate in good standing or a graduate student interested in sustainability, specifically that achieved through green building, environmental policy, urban planning, and related areas. Should have a background in communications. Excellent writing and communication skills, good design skills, able to work independently, attention to detail, the ability to take initiative on specific projects. Computer programming skills a plus. Must be locally based in Los Angeles.
Time Commitment:
Must commit to at least 10 hours a week for a period of 3-6 months. Exact hours to be determined with intern and academic institution.

- Conduct research on green building (products, incentives, and designs, etc.)
- Assist in operating the Green Building Resource Center
- Update products and professionals database
- Compile fact-sheets on green products
- Assist with organizational needs
- Help with other tasks and projects as needs arise, including outreach events
