ERYNN CASTELLANOS | MARCH 15, 2018
On August 5th, New Orleans dealt with historic flooding, especially in the Mid City, Treme, and 7th Ward neighborhoods. Global Green is committed to flood mitigation in New Orleans by being a partner of Water Wise NOLA.
Water Wise Treme- a collaborative of Water Wise NOLA and the Greater Treme Consortium- has been actively working to advance green infrastructure in New Orleans’ Treme neighborhood since late 2015. Water Wise Treme has held 3 Neighborhood Water Wise Workshops in Treme, a citywide green infrastructure tour and two visioning workshops where Water Wise Treme participants selected green infrastructure projects that they would like to see in Treme. Since its inception, 110 Treme residents have been informed about green infrastructure through training and workshops. We have removed 518 sq ft of concrete, planted 35 trees, installed 4 rain gardens/planter box, gave out 24 rain barrels.
We are committed to implementing more green infrastructure projects in the community to reduce flooding and provide improved air and water quality!
