Mikhail Gorbachev – Nobel Peace Prize laureate and former President of the USSR – is the Founding President of Green Cross International, which he established in 1993 in response to the 1992 Rio Earth Summit call to create a “Red Cross for the environment”. In 1994, President Mikhail Gorbachev along with Diane Meyer-Simon founded the US affiliate of Green Cross International - Global Green - to foster a global shift toward a sustainable and secure future.
Diane Meyer Simon
Diane is Founder, President Emerita and Past Chair of Global Green USA, which she founded following a Moscow Board Meeting of Green Cross International (GCI) in August 1993 with President Mikhail Gorbachev, who personally enlisted her to organize a US affiliate and become a member of the GCI Honorary Board. Since then, Diane has committed herself to personally spear-heading the GG USA agenda and moulding a message of international environmental responsibility for an American audience.
