Dec. 6th - New York, NY – Global Green USA celebrated the recipients of its 11th annual Sustainable Design Awards on Monday, December 6th 2010. Global Green USA is an innovative national environmental organization working to stem global climate change by creating energy-efficient green homes, schools, communities and cities.
This year’s Sustainable Design Awards went to:
Arianna Huffington – Media Design Award, for the design of Huffington Post Green
eBay Inc., John Donahoe, President & CEO – Organizational Design Award, for the design of eBay Green Team Initiatives
Lincoln MKZ Hybrid, Sue Cischke, Group Vice President, Sustainability, Environment and Safety Engineering, Ford Motor Company – Product Design Award, for the design of 41MPG MKZ Hybrid
Sophia Bush and Austin Nichols (One Tree Hill) – Entertainment Design Award, for the design of the BP Oil Spill Campaign to raise awareness and funds for action
Wade Greene, Policy Design Award, for the design of three decades of transformative philanthropy and advocacy for arms control and environmental issues

“While national climate and energy legislation is stalled in Congress, Global Green is recognizing the effective leadership of individuals and companies who are helping to advance climate and sustainable solutions locally and nationally to make our world more secure,” said Global Green President & CEO Matt Petersen. “We’re so pleased to recognize this year’s extraordinary honorees -- from ecommerce to transportation to entertainment to media to philanthropy -- who confirm that all sectors of society can play a key role in creating the “design” needed for future generations.”
The award ceremony took place at Pier 60, Chelsea Piers, New York, NY. It opened with a cocktail reception at 6:30 pm followed by an organic dinner and program at 7:30 pm. The event chairs were Robert Bucklin and Chuck Harrington and co-chairs are Jerry and Ann Moss.
Past Sustainable Design honorees include TIME Magazine, The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, The Sundance Channel, Giorgio Armani, filmmaker Rolland Emmerich, Good Housekeeping, Gov. Bill Richardson, Russell Albanese and Tesla Motors. Notable past participants in include Katie Couric, Mayor Bloomberg, Kyra Sedgwick, Glenn Close, and Edward Norton.
Global Green USA’s Annual Sustainable Design Awards were inspired by President Mikhail Gorbachev and recognize specific advancements in industry, building, media, organization and public policy. The event also serves as a critical opportunity to raise awareness and funds to support Global Green’s initiatives around the country. including: creating green schools for healthier learning environments for our children; rebuilding green homes, schools and communities destroyed in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast; creating innovative new recycling initiatives in New York City to dramatically reduce the waste stream and reduce CO2 emissions; and reducing Weapons of Mass Destruction.
