DICAPRIO TEAMS UP WITH GLOBAL GREEN USA TO AUCTION OFF UNIQUE EXPERIENCE AND ITEMS ON EBAY TO BENEFIT ORGANIZATION FOR EARTH DAY
Auction Includes Opportunity to Bid on a Green Experience Including Meet & Greet with DiCaprio at the Premiere of Next Film; Proceeds to Benefit Global Green USA’s Climate Initiatives Including Green Schools, Energy Housing, Cities, and Rebuilding of New Orleans
April 15, 2009 – Los Angeles – Global Green USA announces a unique eBay Auction with board member Leonardo DiCaprio to help celebrate Earth Day and benefit its initiatives to green America's schools, affordable housing, and cities in order to combat global warming, lower energy bills, and create green jobs. Global Green has also been selected as a featured non-profit charity for eBay’s “Green Team" initiative. Global Green invited DiCaprio to participate in a one of a kind eBay celebrity charity auction to benefit the organization and to raise awareness of the urgent need for everyone to take action to address our climate and economic crises together with smart environmental solutions.
"We are grateful Leonardo agreed to participate in Global Green’s eBay auction by offering up incredibly unique items - including a once in a lifetime opportunity for 4 people to meet him and attend his next film premiere - all to benefit the important work of our organization," said Matt Petersen, President and CEO of Global Green USA. “Given the urgent need to pursue smart solutions to the environmental and economic crises, the auction proceeds will help support Global Green’s initiatives to increase energy efficiency, solar and green building in our nation’s schools, cities, housing as well as the green rebuilding of New Orleans.”
"By bidding on these items at ebay.com/globalgreen, people will help Global Green combat climate change and pursue important environmental imperatives, such as greening our nation's schools, housing, cities and more" said Leonardo DiCaprio, Global Green USA board member.
"As science continues to point for the need to urgently act on climate change, we need everyone – individuals, nonprofits, politicians, and business – to take action. We must urge our leaders to take the next step and arrive at the Copenhagen Climate meeting later this year with the next agreement in hand,” continued DiCaprio. “President Obama and our leaders in Congress need all of our help to overcome the special interests that continually fight climate and clean energy legislation.”
“With the economic and environmental crises converging, we must find ways to address them together. For example, we spend more money in this nation on energy bills for schools than textbooks and computers combined - every school in every neighborhood in America can be part of solving global warming, and help put more money into classrooms,” concluded Matt Petersen. “We need governments to urgently address the environmental and economic crises together by shifting subsidies for oil, gas and coal - estimated at $300 billion USD annually - toward solar and renewable technologies to create jobs, improve the lives of those in need, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”
