Energy Efficiency Fellow

Global Green USA seeks a committed and energetic person to join our New Orleans office in the Build it Back Green (BIBG) program. This is a 12-month Fellowship with opportunities for in-depth training in green rebuilding, and potential for long-term employment. Position reports to the Program Manager of BIBG. Primary duties will include working with the public to provide education about and implement green building and energy efficiency home modifications. This position will become the BIBG technical expert and will employ a combination of technical, interpersonal and hands-on skills.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide one-on-one technical assistance consultations for New Orleans residents at community events or at the GG Resource Center.
  • Perform walk-throughs of homes, conduct informal energy audits, and make energy efficiency upgrade suggestions.
  • Conduct blower door tests before and after home modifications to determine cost and energy savings.
  • Photograph and document case studies to demonstrate the impact of BIBG technical assistance, including tracking Entergy bills.
  • Deliver twice-monthly workshops and “green it yourself” trainings for a general audience, and develop training materials.
  • Serve as main point of contact with green vendors, facilitate product discounts, and identify new products and vendors.
  • Pending funding, provide installation of energy efficiency upgrades for low income homeowners.
  • Assist in the on-going capacity building of Global Green staff, interns and AmeriCorps VISTAs.
  • As needed, act as spokesperson for the organization at meetings, public events, and in the media.
  • Attend trainings on green building technologies and sustainable design.


The successful candidate will have the following qualities, skills, and experience:

  • Strong background in building/carpentry and a solid understanding of and/or interest in green building.
  • Bachelors degree in urban planning, public policy, building management, environmental studies, or related field preferred; Graduate degree and LEED AP a plus.
  • Outreach, canvassing or community organizing experience preferred.
  • Professional experience in nonprofit, public agency, or construction contractor environment.
  • Good public speaking and customer service skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and performance objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to work individually and as part of a hard working, creative team.
  • Basic computer skills including email, databases, Excel, and Google.


Compensation: $30,000 – 35,000 annual, plus advanced green building education.
