Twenty-five-year old Romi Weil is worried about her carbon footprint, polar bears, holes in the ozone, wildflowers, songbirds and certain land masses to name just a few of her concerns. As a dumpster-diving-Freegan and a Harvard drop-out, she's doing just fine squatting in an abandoned tenement and not causing any harm to the enironment.
But when her mother decides to run for State Senate, Romi's little green world is sent spinning off its access and she is hurled headlong into the frenzy of family, fashion and media attention. Not only is her life put under the harshest scrutiny, but her own eyes are opened and she is forced to ask herself (and everyone around her) is it possible to be too awake or care too much?

LEARN MOREEARTH HOUR 2009
Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.
In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you’re from, but instead, what planet you’re from. VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual, every business, and every community. A call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. Over 74 countries and territories have pledged their support to VOTE EARTH during Earth Hour 2009, and this number is growing everyday.
We all have a vote, and every single vote counts. Together we can take control of the future of our planet, for future generations.
VOTE EARTH by simply switching off your lights for one hour, and join the world for Earth Hour.

LEARN MOREGlobal Green CEO speaks on sustainability
The Daily Evergreen. Oct 30, 2008. By Mike Brambley.
The environmental costs of global warming are a threat to the livelihood and survival of the human race, said Matt Petersen, president and CEO of Global Green USA.
Petersen spoke to students about the environmental benefits of green building and sustainable development Tuesday in the CUB Ballroom. The speech was the concluding event of Global Green Week, which occurred Oct. 20-24.
“Now is the time to invest in green jobs,” he said. “Now is the time to invest in the future of energy supplies like wind and solar power.” Petersen’s company, Global Green USA, works to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by creating sustainable building and city designs.
Global Green USA arrived early in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast. He said the company set the standard for green development in the effort to rebuild homes destroyed by the hurricane.
“We got there early and made a commitment,” Petersen said. “It has had a ripple effect.” Most of the homes constructed in New Orleans are designed to be energy efficient since reconstruction began, he said.
Petersen encouraged students to consider careers in environmental protection, even if their majors are not related to environmental sciences.
He said global warming and other world environmental problems are the greatest challenges facing humanity in today’s world.
“The planet can survive without us, but we cannot survive without a healthy planet,” he said.
Matt Petersen presents at Bioneers
Global Green President Matt Petersen is participating in this years Bioneers Conference. Founded in 1990, Bioneers promotes practical environmental solutions and innovative social strategies for restoring Earth’s imperiled ecosystems and healing our human communities.
Founder Kenny Ausubel coined the term Bioneers in 1990 to describe an emerging culture. Bioneers are social and scientific innovators from all walks of life and disciplines who have peered deep into the heart of living systems to understand how nature operates, and to mimic "nature's operating instructions" to serve human ends without harming the web of life. Nature's principles—kinship, cooperation, diversity, symbiosis and cycles of continuous creation absent of waste—can also serve as metaphoric guideposts for organizing an equitable, compassionate and democratic society
On Friday afternoon, Matt Petersen will be moderating a panel: Leveraging Business Innovations for Environmental Breakthroughs. The panel includes Ray Anderson; Erin Meezan, Interface’s director of sustainable development; and Jack Hidary, brilliant entrepreneur and innovation maven, first funder of the Automotive XPrize, and founder and chairman of the Freedom Prizes.
