As part of our work on the Holy Cross Project in the Lower 9th Ward, we are working with the Lower 9th Ward Center for Sustainable Engagement and Development and local residents to create a plan to solve the neighborhood’s food access issues. The Food Action Planning Committee has completed four out of eight planned community meetings to assess fresh food access issues and develop a community food vision through collaboration. This is truly a community driven initiative – passionate and committed Lower 9th Ward residents working for an equatable food system in their neighborhood. We look forward to contributing to healthy food access with our fresh food vendor in our soon-to-break-ground Community Development and Climate Action Center.
